| Data Type | What It Is | Where It Goes |
|---|---|---|
| Location (GPS) | Your device's latitude, longitude, speed, and course | On-device only. Used to center the chart, show your position, and power instruments. Never transmitted to our servers in real time. |
| Voyage Log | GPS track points, logbook entries you write, timestamps | Stored locally on your device and synced to Supabase (our database provider) if you're signed in. Used to show your voyage history. Not analyzed by us. |
| Voice Input | Speech you speak into the mic for navigation queries | Processed on-device by iOS Speech Recognition (Apple). The transcribed text is sent to our AI assistant. Raw audio is never stored or uploaded. |
| AI Queries | Your navigation questions, plus vessel conditions (wind, tide, depth) | Sent to Anthropic's Claude API via our secure proxy. Queries are not linked to your identity. Anthropic's data retention policies apply. |
| Vessel Profile | Vessel name, draft, air draft, length, type, home port | Stored locally on your device and in Supabase if signed in. Used for route validation and safety checks only. |
| Usage Analytics | Which features you use, app opens, screen views | Sent to PostHog (analytics provider). No precise location, no personal identifiers, no advertising profiles. Used to improve the app. |
| Subscription Status | Whether you have an active SeaMate subscription | Managed by RevenueCat. We receive subscription state only โ no raw payment data. Apple processes payments. |
SeaMate requests "When In Use" location permission to display your vessel position on the chart and drive your instruments (speed, course, depth). Location data is processed entirely on-device. We do not transmit your real-time GPS coordinates to our servers.
If you record a voyage, track points are saved locally and optionally synced to your Supabase account. You can delete voyage data at any time from the Logbook tab.
When you use the microphone icon to ask the SeaMate AI assistant a question, your speech is transcribed using Apple's on-device Speech Recognition framework. We never receive raw audio. The transcribed text is then sent to our AI proxy for a navigation response.
SeaMate requests the "Speech Recognition" permission for this feature only. You can revoke this permission in iOS Settings at any time โ the text input will still work.
When you ask the SeaMate Captain a question, your query (plus current marine conditions: wind, tide, depth) is routed through a secure RisleeTree proxy to Anthropic's Claude API. The following are included in AI requests:
Your name, Apple ID, email address, and device identifiers are never included in AI requests. Anthropic processes requests per their Privacy Policy.
We use PostHog (a privacy-respecting analytics platform) to understand how SeaMate is used. Data collected includes: app open events, which tabs and features are accessed, and crash-adjacent error events. No precise location data, no personal identifiers, and no advertising profiles are created. You can request deletion of your analytics data by emailing us.
Voyage log data and vessel profiles you sync to Supabase are retained until you delete your account or request deletion. Analytics data is retained for 12 months. You may request deletion of all data by emailing legal@risleetree.com.
SeaMate is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold by contacting us at legal@risleetree.com. We will respond within 30 days.
We may update this policy as SeaMate adds new features. Significant changes will be noted in the app. Continued use of SeaMate after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
